Digital dentistry reffers to a new way of practicing…a new world for dentistry! It includes all methodologies that through the use of the latest technology offer a whole new range of treatments for our patients. Thsese techniques allow us to work more precisely, decrease treatment time and increase patient comfort.
Digital dentistry is no longer the future…but today!
How does it improve diagnostics?
Digital dentistry allows an easy, precise and reproducible diagnostic. All pictures taken to our patients are currently used to digitally create the ideal customized smile for each patient throughout a digital smile design. Moreover, the CBCT (Cone Beam Computerized Tomography) allows a 3D image of all the hard tissues and the ideal implant planning for future dentures. Finally, digital impressions allow a precise reproduction of our patient’s mouth avoiding uncomfortable impression materials.

What does CAD-CAM mean?
CAD-CAM stands for Computer-Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing and it allows the dentist to design and fabricate crowns chairside. Firstly, a digital impression is obtained that a software uses to create a customized crown. Finally, the crown is milled within a couple of hours. This reduces both time and cost for all patients and allows the dentist to control the process at all treatment stages: precision, esthetics and strength are great!

What is guided surgery?
Guided surgery is the most detailed planning of implant treatment. The information obtained through the CBCT and the digital impression are used by a software that plans the perfect number, position and type of implants, as well as, the drilling sequence fot eh surgical treatment. Once the process has been checked by the surgeon, a customized surgical stent is used to place the implants the day of the surgery. This allows less treatment time and greater precision and security.
Can we use digital dentistry for all our patients?
Digital dentistry is a valuable tool nowadays, however, it has limitations. Consequently, it should be applied together with traditional dentistry in some scenarios. It is crucial to adapt knowledge, technology and tools to each patient and always trust your dentist.
